Albania, "the jewel of the Balkans," is a small mountainous country located in the southeast of the European Balkan Peninsula. It borders Montenegro and Kosovo to the north, North Macedonia to the east, and Greece to the south. To the west, it has coastlines on the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, facing southern Italy.

The official language of the Republic of Albania is Albanian. Its standard form, both spoken and written, is revised and fused with the two main dialects, Gheg and Tosk, although it is primarily based on the Tosk dialect.
Although it is a secular state, the 2011 census included a question about religion, and as a result, it was found that almost 60% of the population practices some variant of the Muslim religion.
The country's history is long, from the archaeological era with relics and sites dated three centuries before Christ. It has been a territory disputed by more powerful neighboring nations, such as the Greeks and Romans. From the medieval era, robust castles and Orthodox or Benedictine monasteries survive. From the Ottoman rule, there are many cultural traits, and there are also remnants of fascist and Soviet domination. All of this can be explored at the National Historical Museum, located in front of the iconic Skanderbeg Square in the heart of Tirana, the capital

But Albania has a lot to offer to tourists eager to discover new and different things. Near Tirana, to the north, is the historic Krujë Castle. If you prefer nature, in the north of the country, on the border with Montenegro, is Lake Skadar, a wooded national park with the lake shared by both countries. Simply wonderful to explore.
