Did you know that Armenia was the first nation to adopt Christianity as its official religion? This happened in the early 4th century, possibly in the year 301. Its language is Armenian, which has a unique alphabet developed in the 5th century to translate the Bible and which resulted in the unique script of Grabar, the basis of modern Armenian.

Officially called the Republic of Armenia, it is a "transcontinental" country located between Eastern Europe and Western Asia, south of the Caucasus. Its borders are with Georgia to the north, Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh to the east, Iran and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan to the south, and Turkey to the west. It is landlocked.
Armenia's history is very tumultuous, having been a country occupied by more powerful nations from the Persian era (5th century) to the Soviet era (20th century), achieving independence in 1991. It has eleven provinces, with Yerevan as the seat of the capital. Its history of wars, occupations, and exterminations has given Armenians a very distinct character, as well as a culture well demonstrated in various forms of art. It is not an associate member of the European Union, but since 2004 it has been part of the European Neighborhood Policy, along with other South Caucasus countries, to establish commercial and cultural relations.
