During the month of February, Casa Europa exhibits the works of the renowned artist Leonard and Reva Brooks, but, Did you know their musical contribution to the city? In 1962 the Mexican government asked Leonardo to become the founding director of the Music Department of the new School of Fine Arts in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, which he would be in charge of for 25 years. During that period and in total for almost 40 years, Leonard donates his salary to provide musical instruments to his students, among these students were the children who would later form the group called: The Aguascalientes Brothers. The Aguascalientes Brothers were originally from San Miguel de Allende, Gto. They were graduates of the Ignacio Ramírez ''El Nigromante'' Cultural Center, National Institute of Fine Arts, where they were students of the late artist Leonard Brooks. Mr. Brooks was the founder of the first school music in San Miguel de Allende. During their extended career Daniel and José Luis were members of the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato, The Chamber Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato, the Tuna de Oro de Guanajuato and the State Band for many years. They also participated in the orchestra that accompanied the international organist Juan Torres and his melodic organ. In 1977 they formed the current ensemble. After more than four decades the artistic work of this group plays an important role in the musical field of Mexico. Their extensive repertoire incorporates music from many parts of the world, which they have performed on numerous important stages in Mexico, North, Central, South America and Europe. The Aguascalientes Brothers have received multiple awards from prestigious cultural institutions for their extraordinary musical achievements. This is their 43rd year of performing as the Aguascalientes Brothers ensemble. Today the violinists, Daniel and José Luis, will be accompanied by their outstanding colleagues on guitar, bass and keyboard. This concert will take us on a tour of popular international melodies.
